Elder John Calvin Mathis serves as the Pastor of Word of Life Ministry 1236 Vine Street., located in Clarksville, TN 37040. He is a dynamic preacher, teacher, counselor and leader, whose focus is the integration of the Word and Faith.
Elder John C. Mathis was born in Charleston, S.C. He received his education at Spartanburg Methodist College (B.A.) and at Tennessee Technological University (B.S.C.E). He enjoyed his tenure as a professional basketball player in the United Arab Emirates and the Continental Basketball Association (CBA ).
Elder Mathis accepted his call to the gospel ministry in 1982 and was ordained in 1998 by Bishop Gilbert Earl Patterson in Memphis, TN. Elder Mathis was recommended by the Bishop Jerry L. Maynard of Pentecostal Tabernacle, Nashville, TN to become pastor of Word of Life Ministries and Elder Mathis was appointed as pastor by Bishop Patterson,
on 25 July 1999.
Although Pastor Mathis was already serving and operating in the capacity of a pastor full-time, he was obedient to the call of God, and he retired from his position with the Tennessee Department of Transportation (T.D.O.T.), where he served as a Civil Engineer for 20 years.
Chosen and Anointed by God, Elder Mathis, has proven himself to be a man of the Word, and of Faith. His unique teaching style and dynamic delivery has inspired, equipped and encouraged the people of God to do the "Work of Ministry", through our regular Sunday Services and Tuesday Night Bible Study and the work of Holy Spirit he has transformed the lives of the men and women throughout this city.
He has also provided exceptional leadership to the church and the community.
Elder Mathis is a member of the Clarksville Historical Society. He leads the S.W.A.T. (Saints Witnessing Around Town) team in reaching the loss for Christ. His ministry includes visiting the Nursing Home (Clarksville Manor Nursing Home) and Bound to Be Free, (Jail Ministry).

1550 AM "The Light" and the Family Net Television Network, Charter Cable Channel 27.
Pastor John Calvin Mathis can now be seen every Monday morning at 6:00 AM, on the local television station, WCKV-TV, carried on Charter Cable Ch 6, CDE Lightband Cable Ch 12, or on Antenna Ch 21.1 over-the-air (free TV).
Pastor Mathis is the proud father of two children, John and James (Sons of Thunder).
